THE AOTEA. Mr. n. L. Taplcy, chairman of the Underwriters' Association, has received cable advice that the Shaw-Savil! steamer Aotca, whicli was docked at Capo Town for inspection, subsequently sank alongside the wharf. She has since been raised, but is leaking seriously.—Dunedin "Star."
MAGDALA AT AUCKLAND. A Press Association message received from Auckland last night announces tho arrival at Auckland of the U.S. and A. Line's steamer Mngdala, from New York, via way ports. The vessel is expected to reach Wellington on March 13.
RTJAHINE, FROJt LONDON.' It is expected that the New Zealand Shipping Company's li.M.S. Ruahine will put in an appearance at ..Wellington, from London, via way ports, late to-night or earlv to-morrow morning. Tho vessel will berth at the King's Wharf about 9 a.m. tomorrow to land passengers and. discharge Home cargo.
A COMPANY AND ITS' PURPOSE. On Starch 2 a private company was registered with tho object of purchasing the barque Helen Denny, and trade with the vessel. THE CLAN MENZIES. Leaving Timaru for' Wellington yesterday the Scales chartered steamer Clan Mcnzie3 should arrive hero tins afternoon. Upon completion of loading operation:! at this port tho vessel proceeds to Picton, and, after making a call, at Westport for bunker coal, will go to Auckland to completc loading for London. She will sail finally from the northern port on March 20.
' TONCtAKIRO SAILS FOE LONDON. Five minutes after raid-day yesterday the New Zealand Shipping Company's 8.J1.5. Tongariro cast off from the Glasgow Wharf and proceeded to au anchorage in the stream to await ship's papers, etc. At 3.15 p.m. the liner got. under way, and was soon lost to view, the long voyage to London having commenced. The vessel, when sho left the wharf, was deeply laden, and was also taking a large number of passengers, 115 having joined the steamer at Wellington. En route, the Tongariro makes calls at Monte Video and Tcncriffo, and' at these ports more passengers nro expected to join her. Sho is expected to reach Plymouth on or about April 19, and London on the following day.

The export of timber amounted to 146.710 sup. feet. During tho month 75 steamers, representing 40,813 tons, entered the port, and 77 steamers, representing 43,365 tons, left the port. The total tonnage for tho month was 64,178. ~ , . , Last- month the mean high waler in the river was 24ft. 10in., and on the bar 25ft. These figures constitute a record depth of water for the port.
Due hero to-night from haramen, the steamer Wairan (Messrs. Dalgety and Co., agent;;) will leave port again to-morrow for Blenheim.
The IComata, which is expected at Wellington to-morrow from Wcstport. is bringing a full load of coal for the local branch of tho Wcstport Coal Company,

H.M.B. Cumbrian left the Blurt for Port Chalmers at 9 -a.m. yesterday, and arrived at her destination last night.

Leaving 'Lyltelton at 4.55 p.m. yesterday, the intercolonial steamer Manuka should arrive at Wellington about 6 a.m. to-day. She continues her journey to Sydney at 5 p.m.
Mr. P. Bovis, chief officer of the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Tongarlro, which left for Home yesterday, has made his last visit to New Zealand as a ship's officer. When the vessel arrives Home this' voyage Mr. Bcvis will resign, and his present intention is to come out about the end of April or beginning of May and settle in Tasmania. He has served in many of the company's ships, and has, for sonic considerable time, boon trading between London and Hew Zealand. •■ ■
