FIRE AT HAMILTON.

A LAEGE MART DESTROYED. (By TdccraDli—Press Association.) Hamilton, March 8. A disastrous fire broko out shortly after six o'clock, this evening, ■n-hich. totally destToyed' Messrs. King and Co.'6 hugo mart, with its contents, and (jutted tlift Waikato Hospital Board Buildings next door. The fire originated in a small office in tlio block occupied by Mr. D. Luxford, manager of tho Blind Tea Agency, and spread rapidly Most of the firemen were away at tho Hokitika gathering, and tho brigade was assisted by civilians, who,, without a recognised head, did little. In addition the water pressure was poor. It is not known what is tho extent of tha damage, but apparently everything went. Luckily thcro was no wind, or the whola block would have gone.* The buildings were owned by Mr. Ralph Holland, of Ashburton. It is believed all is covered by insurances, but tho amounts are unavoilablo. Tho fire has now been subdued.
