WELLINGTON COLLEGE OLD BOYS' ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL REPORT. Iu the report to be'submitted to the members of the Wellington College Old Boys' Association at the annual meeting on March 15, the. acting-secretary (Mr. J. L. Palcthorpe) says:—The finances.ot tho association are- in a satisfactory condition. The balance-sheet shows a credit of .£SB 3s. 4(1., of which .£SO is on fixed deposit. The statement of receipts and expenditure shows an excess of receipts over expenditure of Us. 4d. for the ■ year. The membership now stands at (ill ordinary members, and-191 life members. The Football Club is in a satisfactory state. Last season the members had many enjoyable games, and altogether the y<:ar was a successful one. The play, all round showed imprbvement. In the competition the Tecords arc:—First fifteen played 12 matches, won 7, lost 5; second fifteen, played 10, won 3, lost 5, drawn 2; third fifteen, played 10, won 7, lost 2, drawn 1. The Old Boys' Challenge Shield competition was, held at' Nelson, and the club's representatives, though unsuccessful, gavo a creditable display. Finon. cially the club has a small credit balance. Towards the close of tho year tho committee decided to form a Tennis Club in connection with the association, and a sub-committee consisting: of Messrs. Darroch, Beere, and Goldfinch did useful work in this direction. It is hoped that tho incoming committee will complete tho formation.of such a club, which will be tile means of bringing the old. boys toK'/Jier in the summer months, and will help in a measure to fill the vacancy left by the. disbanding of tho Cricket Club as an active body. The representation on tho Board of Governors had to be held over until the return of the Hon. G. Fowlds from South Africa. Mr. Brodio has. kindly consented to act as representative at the college in succession to Mr. Pope, who has now left tho staff. Owing to removal from Wellington, Mr. A very has been compelled to resign his position as secretary. His loss will bo severely felt. The committee trusts thaf lie will gain distinction in the military career which ho has now definitely embraced. Tho committee suggests that the association take into consideration the offering of a trophy for rifle shooting at the college. During the year the annual donations of .£5 ss. and £1 were mado to the college ground fund and the college prize fund respectively. The committee has noted with the liveliest satisfaction the many honours gained by the college during the last twelve months in university and other examinations, as well as in rifle shooting and in all branches of athletic sports. Among the old boys, Mr. D. U, Collins is specially to bo felicitated on having won his cricket "blue" at Cambridge, and having finished tho £oa=on with tho highest batting average at ins university.
