LABOUR AND TRUSTS.
OUTLOOK FOR MEAT COMBINE. By TclcsrapU-Prcss A^soclntion-Copyrlßlit Sydney, March 7. Mr. Tretle, honorary Minister assisting tlio New South Wales Minister for Agriculture, bays ho does not believe the American Meat Trust will lie able to obtain a fuoting- in Australia as in America, because (he Governments arc hostile, and the Trust would never bo able Iα obtain preferential treatment in regard to Ilio .carriage of Roods on the railways against the isolated settler. Kven if (ho 'J'riKt became established it would 1)0 a simple matter for the Government to stop in anil lnimllo the produce from Hie eu-opornlivo woiks. The Trust would have a hopeless struggle against the combined power of the people ami the Uovornment.
Ho did not think, with a Federal La-Ijc-ur Government iu power and a Stale Parliament rapidly getting into the hands of the Labour party, that Australia would be regarded as suitable as a place for the Trust's operations; nevertheless it behoved everybody to back up the efforts to prevent the Trust playing ducks and .li-akes with the producers' interests.
