HOUSE BURNED AT AYONSIDE. "'.By Tc!cErapl)-?res9 Association.! Christchurch, March 6. A dwelling-hous9 in Retreat Read, Avonside, owned by Mr. C. AY. "Williams, was totally destroyed by fire. The building being outside the city limits tho services of the Fire Brigade were not requisitioned. The place had been untenanted for some rime. Tho causo of the- outbreak is unknown. Both tho building and its coutouts were insured in tho Alliance Office for £700. ACRES OF GRASS BURNT. Dargavillo, March 6. News to band from Arapohuo show 1 ; that while fire-clearing operations on J. Haylo's property were in progress last week, the" fire got out of hand and spread to adjoining paddocks. Over twenty acres of good grass were destroyed. About n dozen settlers worked very hard and just saved a couple of dwellings. SASH AND DOOR FACTORY. Stratford, Jlarch G. Derby Bros.' sash, and door factory, •with its contents, was destroyed by lire on Sunday morning. The building and machinery were valued at .£I2OO, and the stock- in tho factory at .£3OO. A house adjoining and timber in tho yard were saved with difficulty. The total insurance is oEGOO in the Sun Office.
