He would have been able to secure the necessary absence from his employment, but private reasons prevented his acceptance of the offer. The following have been chosen to represent Canterbury in the New Zealand Championships on March 18:— 100 yards-R.. Opie, AY. L. Patterson, and F. Cook. 220 yards-R. Opie, W. L. Patterson, and A. M'Master. 1-10 yards-R. Opie, E. Wright, and AT. L. Patterson. BSO yards-G. Raskins, L. A. Dougall, and E. AVright. One mile—G. Haskins, L. A. Dougall, M. Dickson, and E. J. Steele. Three miles-L. A. Dougall, M. Dickson, and E. .1. Steele. AValks-P. H. Stubberfield, A. P. Stubbcrfield, and R. Twvnoham. 120 yards hurdles—H. E. Hamilton, F. Cook, and F. V. Robinson. ■110 yards hurdles—H. E. Hamilton, F. Cook, and AA'. L. Patterson. Long jump—C. L. Orbell and P. A 7. Robinson. High jump-C. L. Orbell and F. Y. Robinson. Shot and hammer—W, De Thier and J. M'Holme. ■ Pole jump—G. Batcstone. Hop, step, and jump—C. L. Orbell. The following athletes aro making the trip at their own expense, and have been included in the official team:—A. T. Duncan, 100 yards and 220 yards; D. Cashman and P. Fitzgerald, one and three mile walks; .T. Wilton, 4-10 yards flat; P. M'Naniarii. high jump; N. G. AVinklemann, high jump and pole vault; A. A T . Stolir (New Plymouth), 100 yards, 220 yards, and 110 yards flat. The team will leave for Christchurch by tho boat on Thursday night, March 10, returning bv the lalo boat from Lyttelton on the Saturday night.
