CABINET DECISIONS.
SUBSIDY TO ATHLETES REFUSED. : SUPERINTENDENT OF STATE FARMS. Cabinet has been holding long-sittings during tho last two days, tho Primo Minister presiding., Among the matters dealt with" were "the following:— Tho Dominion is not to bo represented at tho Hygienic Conferenco at Dresden.' A sum of £500 was authorised to assist in'conveying water to the Tepo district, twelvo miles from Rotorua. In this district many cattle recently died from the scarcity of ivat'ei\ ' Plans and specifications were approved for tho erection of a Public Trust building at Auckland. Tho building will be erected upon tho site recently obtained by tho Government. • Tenders are to bo invited for tho building, w-hich when completed'will bo a very handsome one, with a stone front. It was decided that the' uniforms for tho Territorial forces should bo supplied in New Zealand. Offers have already been received, but the time has been considered in somo cases to be too short, and the Government decided to extend it to October 1, tho object being t& have all tho supplies manufactured in tho Dominion.
The application for a contribution towards sending a team of cyclists and athletes to tho festival of Empire was declined. Regulations dealing with the kauri gum industry were passed. It was decided to invito_ applications for tho position of . Superintendent of Stato.'Agricultural Farms, at a salary of £SOO a year. Applications are to bo invited in England, Canada, and New Zealand. Tho Superintendent will exercise control over all tho State Farms. - Tenders are to bo invited for tho Rangiwahia Post Office. . •. A second- assistant Lands Registrai is to bo appointed. Certain promotions and transfers in the Land Transfer and Deeds Registration Department .were approved. The erection of a new post office at Rotorua' was authorised. , Tenders were accepted for railway girders at Wanganui. Tenders wero also accepted for repairs to the Government steamer Hinemoa. ■ Further additions to the bath houses at Rotorua were authorised. This, said the Prime Minister last evening, has been,found necessary owing to the increased patronage. So great has been tho additional influx of visitors that notwithstanding tho liberal accommodation existing at present, further additions have become absolutely necessary. It was decided that the netting of fish at Rotorua should bo discontinued after March 31. Tho whole, of breeding fish is to bo dealt with by the expert -who is.to be appointed.
It was' decided to appoint a Commission to report upon the state of tho ventilation, etc., of mines in the Dominion. The following gentlemen from various parts of the Dominion were appointed Messrs. F. Reid, ,D. N. .Cochrane, G. Grace, J. Dixon, J, Fulton, and H. Bett's. ... Tho accommodation for the clecircal staff of the Defence Department at the Mount Cook Barracks is to be increased. , Tenders'are'to be invited; for a post office at Manutuke and for., a police station at Taihapo. ■■■'■ Tenders are to be called-for tho Seacliff -Mental Hospital.
