Wedding at Makino. Oil Tuesday at Makino the weddijig took place of Miss Edith Taylor, fourth daughter of Mr. J. 11. Taylor, of Makino, and Mr. John Hunter, eldest son of Mr. W. Hunter, of Wellington. Father Kincaird was tho officiating priest- Tho bride wore a dress of white chiffon taffetas and carricd a beautiful shower bouquet, the gift of Mrs. Ritchie. Sho was attended by Misrv, Hunter (sister of the .bridegroom) who wore a dress of pink chiffon taffetas, and two little bridesmaids, Miss Maggie Eunis (her cousin) and Miss Zilla Taylor (her sister) in frocks of cream silk. Tho bride's present from tho bridegroom was a pearl pendant and ear-rings and to the bridesmaids wero given a pendant and chain to the elder, and gold bangles to tho little girls. The future homo of the bride and bridegroom will be in- Wellington.

Protection of Women and Chilclron. At tho monthly meeting of the Society for the" Protection of Women and Children, the following members were present: Mesdamos Atkinson, W. J. Gray, Winder, Corrigan, Darling. M'Leaii, Algar Williams, M'Vicar, and Miss M'Gregor. Apologies for absence were .received from Mesdamcs Lcckic. Coulis, and Reid. Accounts amounting to £20 lis. were passed for payment and tho Plunket nurse reported 160 visits paid during tho ,month. In connection with the garden fete, .after all expenses were, paid, the society will have tho substantial amount- of. £155. The committee wished to thank all those who so kindly helped to make tho fete such a succcss, and who also donated prizes, etc. Applications for the position of Plunket nurse were held ovei: until next week. W.C.T.U. The monthly meeting of the W.C.T.U. was held in the rooms, Constable. Street, on Thursday, but owing to tho.rain.the attendance was small. Final arrangements were made for the convention, which opens on the 23rd inst. at New Plymouth. Mrs. John Hislop, of Dunedin, was present, and gave a very interesting talk _ on_ W.C.T.U. work. Great interest is being taken in the All Nations demonstration, which is to be held at tho closo of tho convention. Mrs. Hislop has all-, tho arrangements in hand, a sufficient guarantee that it . will be a success. Mrs. Cole; NewZealand president, has been ill, and has been for somo time in a privato hospital in Christchurch, but she hopes to be well enough to be able to journey to New Plymouth. Delegates arrive from tho south in time to join tho .Wellington ladies, and all will form a party and travel together. '

A Farswcfl, The Palmerston Nursing Division of St. John Ambulance Association were entertained at afternoon tea on Wednesday afternoon "by Miss F. Collinson, at her parents'-..- residence.;^, A lt gramme of music and •'mious" gaiiies' was arranged, and a thoroughly pleasant timo was spent. Miss Collinson, who is an esteemed member of .the, division, leaves, in company with her, brother, very shortly on a trip to England. Before tho party dispersed, Mrs. H.-Mowlem, superintendent of the division, on behalf of those present, wished Miss Collinson a pleasant trip, and trusted she would return with lier health thoroughly recovered.
