Rawling will represent the Oroua County Council at a conference of local bodies interested to bo held at l'allnerston for the purpose of asking tho Government to take over the road through the Mauawatu Gorge. For the past four months tho Cheltenham Co-operativo Dairy Company has paid its suppliers at tho rato of 10} d. per lb. for butter-fat. Recent rains have put a- green tint on the grass, and in those paddocks where any attention has been given in tho way of cultivation tho brown appcaranco is disappearing in favour of tiie richer new growth. Though it is too. late in tho season to expect any increase in tho flow of milk; tho rain had tho effect of improving the tests in somcjplacos. Tho monthly meeting of the Oroua County Council was held yesterday. Present: Councillors AV. G. Pcarco (acting-chairman), J. H. Vincent, Thos. ljawling, Hugh Burrell, H. Hedmayne. Mr. I!. Wilson, Director of Commerce and Tourists' Division, wrote suggesting that tho council should,, if they Tiad not already done so, erect finger-posts 011 all roads ,at crossings.' The county treasurer reported that tho rates outstanding to February 28 totalled £203 9s. ld.j bank balances,.general account, nr., £559 2s. 6d.; interest account, dr., £331 3s. ,4d.; Gorpo Bridgo account, dr.; £638,35. lOd.; No. 22 loan account, cr., £7 9s. 6dl Mr. Roy L. Mr. 1 J. Nicholas, was tlio successful'winner .of, tho points prize, and deserved tho honour'. His collection of blooms .occupied a largo space, and was beautiful to look. upon. Two rinks .of the Pahiatua Bowling Club paid a 'visit to tho local green .yesterday and wore successful in their games, cacli rink winning by one point.

FEATHERSTON. The Booth Cup' match, played at Carterton oil Thursday, between tho Foatherston and Carterton bowlers, resulted in a win for the heme rinks. Horsbrugh, Donald, . Henderson, Elliott (s.), wcro defeated, by 27 points to 15; and Holms, Sorpnsen, Tocher, and M'Kcnzio (s.) by 19 to 17. Benton and Bungay (s.) defeated tho holders of the Grady medals, Whyte and Fisher (s.), by 24 points to 20,' after an exciting contest, and were heartily congratulated unon their meritorious performance. At tho outset the medals were held for some years by a Mastcrton pair, and then Carterton players held them for a length)' period. 1 Rifleman Mason was the most successful representative of tho Featherston Rifle Club at the recent championship meeting;.Ho finished thirteenth in the grand aggregate. Foatherston No. 1 team was fourth in the team's mutch, and Foatherston No. 2 eighth. Word has just been received hero jf the death of Mr. Matthew Pendray, son of tho Rev J. J. Pendray, Into of Grey town, and now of Fkctnlitina, in British Columbia. Mr. Pendray, with two partners, went north from Victoria to stake out a large tract of land, and Mr. Pendray and oil? of the partners perished in a blizzard. The late Mr. Pendray was a brother of Mrs. A. H. .Hayes, of this town. Supporters of tho No-Licenso movement arc looking forward with interest to the campaign which is to lie inaugurated by Jlr. 11. D. Bedford in• tho Town Hall on Tuesday night. On Wednesday night' Mr. Bedford will lecture at Pirinoa.

At Cambridge Assizes _ recently two undergraduates of the Univbrsity, Evelyn Walter Copland l't-rry, of Trinity College, and Cyril Kecd Skinner, of St. John's, were charged with stealing three surveying instruments, value ,£lO 55., the property of Professor Hughes, from tho Geological Museum, Cambridge. The defendants admitted they had the instruments. They pleaded that the instruments were not taken with felonious intent. but to settle a bet of ,£5 (hat they could not be obtained.
