(By Telegraph—Press Association.l ! Timaru, March 1. The South Canterbury Jockcy Club's March meeting opened to-day in fine weather.. The .track was rather hard. The attendance was moderate. This was tho first meeting, without bookmakers. The totalisator investments, amounted to j8i135, or ,£l3O less than the first day of the last March' races. Dunedin, March 1.. Tfye Forbury Park Trotting. Club's meeting concluded to-day in fine .weather, and thero was a good attendance llw. totalizator figures for the day were <£12,097 10s., as against *£7408 last year, and the total increase for tho meeting was .£9295. After the first race the stewards called on J. M'Kewen for an explanation as to tho running of The Urchin on Friday. This horse started tenth in order of favouritism. After hearing tho owner's explanation the stewards were satisfied. Another matter for the stewards was as to J. M'Cutcheon, who had, Ravonschild engaged in'- the Cup. The stewards had a doubt as to whether M/Cutcheon, who had been ill, was fit to ride. They therefore called in Dr. Howard, who gave it as his opinion that M'Cutcheon was not fit to ride, whereupon they refused to allow liim to have the mount. M'Cutcheon thereupon scratched his horse. Some interesting gallops were registered this morning, when the weather was perfcct. Lady .Medallist went once round, sprinting home. Torbellc and Astraca covered a mile, the latter pleasing most, in lmin. 50sec. Boanerges and Bronze did five furlongs, finishing together. Madam Madcap beat Dearest over four furlongs. Hydrant' and Gold Bird were together at the end of a fast fivefurlongs. North East covered a circuit at a splid pace. Vice-Admiral and'Peirenu left .five furlongs behind in lmin. 3 4-ssec.,' finishing abreast. Humming. Bird and "\Voodhey took half a- second longer over the same distince. Parable, Kopu, Shining Star, Miss Mischief, and Kilosteri jumped- off for a mile spin, Parable taking some lengths start. Miss Mischief ran up to Parable at the half distance, but the latter came' away and nit the end was well ahead of Miss Mischief, who just beat Kopu. The last named bowled along well. Shining Star was several lengths behind at the half mile, but finished well. Time, lmin. 4fiscc. Lams and St. Felix did five furlongs at a fast pace. First Battery, Deploy, Merrivonia, and Rill all did a round at a solid pace. ;Waikaraka, Rcumec, and To AVhetu did two rounds -at three-quarter pace. Montiform galloped six furlongs in lmin. 19 sec., and Chase Mab five furlongs in 1 ■min. Sscc. Ladrone. was too good for Periwai over five lurlongs. Attention covered six furlongs freely. , Goodwin Park, looking very fit, covered a mile and a quarter fast, moving freely and finishing strongly. Lady Moutoa and Moutoa Girl both did five furlongs fast, tho former especially pleasing.
