LOGS ADRIFT AT SEA.

NEAR EAST CAPE. The following telegram was received yesterday by t!ie Marino Department from the Collector of Customs at Auckland :— "Master of steamer Surrey reports passing a largo number of hardwood lo?s between Portland Island and East Cape." The Surrey left Wellington for Auckland at 5.30 a.m. on Sunday, and arrived at her destination at noon on Monday. It is surmised that tho logs which she sighted on the run up hare been washed down some river in tho vicinity of the Bay of Plenty during tho recent bad weather.
