THE RURAL COURSE.
PETONE DISTRICT HIGE SCHOOL.
A report was received from the inspec-; tors at yesterday's meeting of tho Education Board in regard to the Petono District High School, stating that on. February 10 they met tho committco of tho high school in conference on tho matter of the rural course. The inspectors explained to members, of the committee that owing to staffing and financial difficulties it was, in their opinion, insdvfcablc to introduce this additional course unless tho committee were prepared- to forego, tho matriculation aud civil service junior (competition) courses, to liieet tho requirements of which the nresent programme of tho District High School was framed. So far, said tho report, the committee had given no indication that it Was prepared to do this. The inspectors further expressed the "opinion to the committee that technical instruction more ia sympathy with tho local industries of Petono could be made available by an. extension of tho programme of tho present Technical School. The lines on which this could bo done were indicated. During tho conference it was pointed out by the Chief Inspector that with adequate staffing and sufficient funds a good programme (for Petono) might very well provide for both industrial and rural courses. The report was adopted.
