TRAMWAY DEMANDS.
FURTHER PROPOSALS. The Mayor (Mr. T. 1!. Wilford, M.P.) stated yesterday that the Tramway Union roster and the proposed working scheme based thereon, wero being considered by the corporation officials, preparatory to the next meeting of the conference. As the rostor was a complicated document, it had been decided to adjourn tho meeting of the conference, which was to. have been held tc-uighf, in a date to be agreed unon by tho coaiiei! and tho union. MrT Wilford further stated that he could see daylight, and, yth tho co-operation of the executive of the. union, honed to arrive at a settlement shortly. It was reported' last week -that tha council, before the conference-resumed, would si&mii proposals Vβ tbc iarion,-addi-tional to those of which r.articKliirs have already been published in these columns. Further proposals have now been drawn up, but they contain no definite suggestion as to "rates of pay, under a new agreement." The Tramways Sub-Corn-; mitteo of the council asks the.union to consider the'"spare list" proposals 0)1 the understanding that, if a spare/list is established, the wages of motormen and conductors shall remain as at present. --In regard to the union roster, the subcommittee declares'itself willing, if it can' be shown to the satisfaction of'the corporation officials that economies can bo effected, as claimed by tho union, under the operation of its roster, to recommend an amended scalo of payment to those who are concerned in such.saving.
