Committee, tho explanation by"tlie superintend'■■•ent of tho Firo' Brigado with respect to . his report 'on water mains in certain city '.'streets:— ' ■ "Air instructed, I h.ivo to offer tho U-following explanation of my: report on 3-inch mains in this city:—ln.drawing up v my report, 1 it was not my intention''to' - give, the- impression* that .only 3-inch mains existed in the streets mentioned, bnt to draw" attention to the uselessness of such small mains in those particular areas. I-was certainly at fault in not -discriminating between those streets which have a, large and small main and ; ; those with only the small one. I. was instructed hy.the Firo Brigade Committei ■ to bring (low a report, and had that ■ report been considered by that committee . ' before being made public,, I should have • been-able to explain what was intended. ■ and thus prevent the -misunderstanding . that has taken place.. I must express my regret that this report should 'have, reseived publicity before .being considered »y tho committee, and also 6tato that 1' was,not responsible for it."
