MISSIONS TO SEAMEN.
The popular entertainments,.,:which have been suspended at the Missions to Seamen Institute during the missioner's vacation, was resumed on Wednesday evening, when MisS Cablo arranged an enjoyablo concert. The institute, which was tastefully decorated, was filled by an appreciative audience. Mr. and Mrs. Moore wero accorded a hearty welcome back to their-work in Wellington. Mr. Goudie opened the programmo with tho song "Deathless Army," and for. nil encore sang "The'lrish Ciirl.", Miss.Samson recited two humorous recitations entitled "Tho Boy 'at the Museum" nnd "Tho Bachelor's Auction." Mr. Wilkinson, of the Gisborno City Brass Band, who won the foprauo cornet solo at. tho l'almerstou North band contest,'gave a very fine rendering Of the test piece, "The Yale of Llangollen." lie was'heartily applauded. Miss Ensson sang "Carmencita and "Three Green Bonnets" for an encoro. Mr. B. Gardiner gave two whistling solos, called tho "Dream of Homes", and *Tho Mocking Bird," Miss Licz sang "Homo- Songs" ; and "Roses," and Mr. Goudie sang "Two Grenadiers." The accompaniments wero played by Misses llardy and Easson. Several popular choruses were sung by the nudience, Mr. W. Gardner presiding at tho piano, and an amusing conundrum competition'was won by, sailors from ships in port. Dur-' ing a short interval Mr. Moore delivered on earnest: temperance address, resulting in ten men taking the-pledge. of total abstinence. The performers were accordI ed a hearty vote of thanks at the conclusion;' Miss Cable responding. Light refreshments were dispensed.
