THE SUBURBAN BOROUGHS. ; In some at least of the boroughs' that lie adjacent to Wellington it is certain that there will be a contest for the possesion of the Mayoral chair at the election, which falls due in April next. In Eastbourne, where interest in local politics had received a decided fillip owing t) the recent promotion by the Borougn Council of an important water and drainage scheme, the sitting Mayor, Mr. H. \V, Shortt, will seek re-election. Ho will 1)0 opposed by Mr. "\V. Hobbs. Mr. D. Robertson has also been mentioned 'asa possible candidate. ' Jlr. J. G. Harkness, the present Mayor of Onslow Borough, is absent on a trip to the Old Country, and will be away at the time of the next election. Mr. Harkness has left nomination papers behind him to be used if his supporters think (it, and it is practically certain I hat he will be a candidate. No, other candidates for the Onslow Mayoralty are announced. Mr. J, Brodie, Mayor of Miramar, will stand again at the April election, arid no opponents have thus far declared their intention of contesting his seat. ' It is reported that a strong effort will be made to induce Mr. C. I. Dasent to stand for re-election as Mayor of Karori. No other candidates have as yet been announced. ,
