NEW ZEALAND'S EXPORT TRADE
LETTER FROM TnE PREMIER, ' Some time ago the president of the Chamber of Commerce addressed a letter to the Prime Minister calling his attention to the increased cost of living in America.and other countries, and suggesting that those countries might be brought to scs that prohibitive import duties are largely responsible for the .position. The following reply has been received by Mr. Tewsley;— ' ~'•.'• "February .15, 1911. "Dear sir,—l am in receipt of your letter of January 18, in which on behalf of your chamber you bring before me "the .question of the. increased cost of living which is engaging the attention of the American public, 'and also the fact that American and foreign markets arc closed, either by regulations or prohibitive, import duties. You further suggest that during my forthcoming visit to England I should give attention to this important matter, with a view to 'the United States and the Continental nations concerned admitting our meat and dairy produce on more favourable terms than at m-esent. -In reply, I need hardly say that I appreciate'the importance of tho subject, and .any opportunity which may bo afforded to mo during my travels to develop the export trade of our Dominion will be readily taken advantage of by me. .
