"A RED RAG TO A BULL."
MR. FOWLDS AND PRICE OP WOOL. (Br Telegraph.—Siiecial CorresDondenU Palmerston N.rFebruary 16. While speaking on the question of technical education and wool-classing at the opening of the new Palmerston High School yesterday the Hon.i G. Fowlds said ho recently made reference to this same question at J.evin and his remarks-had been grossly'and unfairly misrepresented, in certain Opposition pipers' which had' credited him with saying that a rise in the price of wool would not be of benefit to Now Zealand. He- had never made such a statement in his life. Any reference he made to wool, was like a red rag to' a,bull to'these Opposition papers, who served "lip this sort of stuff, to discredit- him, .which he thought was a poor " compliment to the intelligence of the people, whom ; the ■ papers imagined would" swallow these untruthful statements. What, no really did fay was that the. cost of teaching wool-classing in the technical schools would be covered by the increased price obtained for the classified article.. Tie read extracts from the newspapers lie was complaining about, and nl«o read a, letter-from Messrs. Levin nnd. Co. to the director of the Palmerston 1 North' Technical School to shnw .that the wool classed by students of the Technical School made a better nrice than unclassified wool. Tie took this opportunity to refer to the matter because the Palmerston Technical School we.s the first to institute wool-classing. Ho hoped the new Hicb School would, go on and prosper and he was pleased to note that thev were also arranging dairying and agricultural classes.
