At a large gathering in the-PalmerSton North Council • Chambers yesterday Inspector O'Donovan, who 'is- being transferred to Invercargill, VaS presented with ail address. The • Mayor (Mr. J. A. Nash), in making the presentation, said that in Inspector O'Donovan they had had a capable and efficient t officer, wjio had ever;been.ready in helping to maintain- the peace arid order of the town. During tho trying-.time- of the Powelka scare, the council had-the-utmost confidence in the inspector, and ho had proved himself worth of that confidence. Ho referred to the many services the inspector had-rendered outside of his Departmental duties, especially to-people in need and suffering. lie: wished Air. ond k Mrs. O'Donovan "pod-speed," and trusted the inspector would, ero long, rise still higher in his Department. Inspector O'Donovan said, that the gathering was the best reward a police officer ' could receive—the goodwill of tho people amongst whom he had served.
