WOMEN AS DENTISTS.
[ Women.dentists, if we are to believe tha fervour of (ho male dental students jit a recent dinner nt Birmingham, ara likely to presently overrun the profession. Pho accuracy.of this prophecy may' be doubted, for Ihoujsh the cWtal'surgeon has an eminently lady-like profession, inasmuch as—unlike the doctor—he has no necessity to leave his homo nt all hours at night, there are somo disadvantages which women .students, judging by their paucity, have not been slow to see. It is not incompatible with femininity to attend at the bedsido of a man stricken doiv.h with some deadly disease, but there is something a little ludicrous in having to ndviso a grown man in excellent health who happens to bo distraught with toothache. ! The Queen of Holland has a woman dentist, wio took some of her training in England, .attached to her Court, ajid there 'are a few ladies in practice in patients largely consisting of Women and children/ If special dental appointnients are likely to be made iii connection with tho medical inspection of school children, it is hot impossible that women may turn to this profession who would otherwiso have specialised in medicine and surgery. But until some lucrativo opening for the lady with the strong wrist,is found, she is likely to bo in a minority.
