At the resumed inquest as to the cause of .death of the victims of the disaster at the Pretoria mine, Bolton, Lancashire,' on December 21 last, 350 lives being lost,' ji verdict was returned to the effect that tlie explosion and resultant' firo .were probably due to gas and coal dust being ignited by a defective or overheated lamp. There was no evidence to show that' there had not been coinplianco with tho statutory obligations, but there.was somo as to laxity in. the management. An amendment of the electricity regulations and monthly reports regarding'the ventilation of mines aro recommended. '
