DOMESTIC SERVANTS.
Sir,—lt is sincerely to' bo hoped that tho proposal of tlio Aftcrcaro Committco of tho Education Board of tho city of Liverpool sent through: Mr. Sedge- 1 wick for tho supply of s'uitablo girls for domestic work in New Zealand will bo warmly taken up. ' Tho offer is a veritable "gift horse," and docs/not want "looking in tho mouth" at all. Each centro •in tho Dominion could absorb easily a shipload, as proposed, of 150 girls,.and committees of ladies, as proposed to organise, ought to get to worki at once. Even if other countries, including Great Britain, caiinot got tho necessary girls for the work if New Zealand o&crs tjio desired advantages for, such sho should tako tho ch'anco as sho is able, and if an evolution of conditions in domestic work is going on as is said to bo tho caso then it will, bo all tho easier for housewives to tido ovor tho period. These girls brought up and trained as they are, will bo an asset to tho country in tho futuro and an oscollcnt leaven for tho whole. Also with tho nicu and bovs for tho farms now coming in it will bo unwiso not to balance with tho other ses as future suitablo wives for them all. IToping this excellent proposal through Mr. Sedgwick will bo taken up with tho vigour it deserves, — I am, etc., • SNAP. IT TJP, February 6, 1911.
