KING ISLAND.

~— —»- • ITS TRUE POSITION. 9y Telceranh-Prcss Assocfatlon-CoDyrlßhl Melbourne, February 10. • Tho Federal Minister for Customs, Mr. Tudor, has received from tho Admiralty a communication dealing with a reported error in-tho shipping chart of the New Zealand coast, regarding tho position of King Island. Admiral Sir Richard Pooro reports that H.M.B. Cambrian investigated tho matter, and found that tho true position of tho 'island should ' bo 34dog. Omin. South, 172deg.8min. Bsec. East, 58Jdeg. N. by W., and 31.8 miles from Capo Reiuga. '' • • In regard to tho obovo cablegram, the officers'of tho Waimato stato that the position of the south point of tho Great King Island is in its true position as that defined by Admiral Sir Richard Pooro; but tho point is distant from Capo Roinga bearing north 581 degrees n'est 32 miles, instead of 31.8 as found by tho H.M.S. Cambrian. The surmise is that tho land in tho vicinity of Capo lioinga must have risen to make the differenco between the measurements of the chart and those of the corrected report.
