HUTT RIVER BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of tho Hutt River Beard was held last evening there being present :-Mr. R. Stevens (chairman), and m, srs ' Pcnn(, . v ' Parkin, l"id Sladdcn. Iho Pctone Borough Council acknowledged receipt of tho board's offor in reference . to tho western approach of tho new Hutt Bridge, mid intimated.that doiails had been' left in tho hands of tho Mayor, who would shortly submit deeds of transfer for the board's approval, Tho overseer reported, that tho work done during tho month consisted :of cutting logs and trees into short.lengths in tho upper reaches of tho river, also the removal of obstructions from tho river course at points, tending to cause n deviation of the river. This is cspecialhsi at Pitcaithley's works where the river threatens to revert eastward to its original- course, being duo largely to accumulated logs. Discussing the report later it was resolved to instruct tho overseer to carry out the woTk of. romoving the groyne near Gear Island..
Referring to the question 0 f enlarging tho boxrd's area the chairman stated that the scheme ns laid out by the board's engineer, would involve a sum of .£I2OO, and ip his (the.chairman's) opinion it would not bo advisablo to go to tho ratepayers for a loan at present. There was work, howover, on the eastern, side of the river, connected with tho enlargement scheme, whirh on the recommendation of tho overseer and the clerk, would cost •CSOO which could bo dealt with first, nnd the other works could be dealt with later.
