SCOTTISH VISITORS. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.). Palmerston North, February C. Messrs. Dunlop and Keith, the Scottish Commissioners, who arrived hero this aftoruoon, accompanied by tho Hon. T. Mackenzio and party, wero met at tho station by Mr. l). Bnick, M.1?., Mr. ,T. A. Nash, Mayor of l'almerston, Mr. J. M. Johnston, treasurer of the Manawatu A. and P. Association, and n nunibor of members of the committeo of the latter body. Messrs. P. A. M'Hnrdy, A. Conway, D. Pringle, and F. J. Nathan kindly placcd their motor-cars at tho disposal of the party, who were driven to different parts of tho district. After partaking of afternoon ton. at tho residence of Mr. Buick, tho party were driven to several dairy factories in the Kairanga. and Glen Oroua districts, and shown tho country and several homcsteadsi. including thai of Mr. J. Bnlsillie, at Ivairanga. Tho outin,-' was .arranged by Mr. J. M." Johnston, anil was much appreciated by tho Commissioners and party. During their stay hero tho Commissioners aro tho guests of Mr R. M'Nab. . . . About three o'clock this aftsrnoon tho firebell rang on alarm, and thero being a rather high wind at tho timo thero was much anxiety among ,tbo townspeople. Tho conflagration proved to bo at tho rcsidonco of Mr. T. Griggs, in Queen Street. Tho firo started in tho' washhouse, and before it was discovered it. liarl travelled to the residence and got a hold in tho roof. Tho brigade was soon 011 tho spot, and quickly got tho flames under. Tho washhouso was destroyed, and a considerable' amount of damago was done- to tho roof of tho residence. The houso is insured in tho State Office, and tho contents iii tho Now Zealand Office. Tho ITigh School Board of Governors paid on official visit to tho now high school this afternoon, and wero greatly pleased with tho' structure, which is a. vast improvement on tho ono destroyed bv fire. Mr. L. C. Colhnson, of tho firm of Collinson and Cunningham, leaves in March ou a sis months visit to England.
