RAILWAY TRAFFIC ARRANGEMENTS.
Sir,—lt is interesting to read in to-day's Dominion tho statement mado by tho Minister for Railways in connection with tho Wairarapa traffic, that "it paid the Government to bring produce from Eketalinna down over the Manawatu lino instead of hauling it over tho Kimutaka." Wo have a butter factory at Mangatainolca, some distance north of Eketahuna, ami our butter .invariably is "hauled over tho Kimulaka" to Wellington, and certainly in a very unsatisfactory manner. Our principal trouble is in getting a truck supplied to Mangatainoka when required, with, tho sometime result that instead of tlio truck of butter (minimum quantity three tons) leaving Mangatainoka on Friduy mornings, it does not get away until lato Friday nights; and after struggling over the Kimutaka reaches Wellington too late 011 Saturday to bo received into tho Meat Export Company's cold store, thus being obliged to remain in truck until Monday morning; this delay, of course, being of great benefit to the butter. On an occasion this delay in arrival at Wellington meant between four and five tons of our butter missing tho Home steamer. ■ Tho Dairy Department complain to us about this delay; a matter in which we are entirely at the morcy of the railway authorities, to whom we, of course, make our complaints, at tho expense, we fear, of tho railway wastepaper basket. Tho Minister's statement referred to seems out of keeping with tho facts as known to Yours faithfully, THE nAWICE'S BAY DAIRY CO., LTD. C. It. BEATTIE, Managing Director. Woodville, February 1.
