Ho was given tho benefit of tho provisions of tho First Offenders Act.

Ono of tlie most terrible railway accidents that lias taken placc in France for many years occurred on June 18 near tlift station of Villepreux-les-Clayes, just beyond Versailles. An express train bound for Granville, and running at full speed, dashed into the rear end of a local train which was standing in tho station. At least 10 people were killed and some 30 others more or less Seriously injured. Tho debris caught fire after the shock and somo of the bodies were burned beyond recognition. The collision appeared to have been dno primarily to the inattention of tho driver of tho Granville express, who admits that he ran past tho danger signals. He excused himself on the pround that something bnd gone wrong with the injector of his engine, and that when ho missed seeing the signals ho was engaged in putting it right i it was not until ho was within 100 yards of Villepreux Station, near which there is a curve in the line, that he saw the stationary train'.
