Mr. E. Goodbehere, secretary to the : Feilding Jockey Club, was in Wellington on Friday last on a busiu<?ss yjsir. Ho returned north by the mail train on Saturday.' •' Au addition to the yearlings at Porirua has.been received in the shape of a nicoljturned (brown colt by' Chaileniagno■ 11 from that, good mare ••Herpiosa. lno youngster, is the property of Mr. J. i>uculey, who bred him. The Oaraaru sportsman, Mr. J. Bucklov, was in town last week in connection with Eome business matters. Prior to returning home on Friday night, he informed mo' tliat All Kod was promised a most successful season at the stud next season, and already oyer thirty mores have 1)0011 booked ta visit him. Contendcnt has loft the Karamu stable, and has been purchased by the Wesv Coast owner, Mr. J. i)onellan. lhis gentleman also owns North lole and ito, who formerly carried tho cerise colours of the Hon. J. p. Ormond. Contendcnt was shipped to his new homo, by the Mapourika last week. It transpires that tho reported sale of Kildonan did not take place, and the big Iviicheran gelding is still nt I. CJuinlivan's stables "in Hastings.. Ho is to bo tried over hurdles later, on in the season, aud should mako a valuable recruit to the jumping game.. As Wimm'ora is now loaded with impossible burdens, Kildonan should bo ablo to take, his- place.;
Tho programme for tho Uairarapa Kacing Club's Autumn meeting at basitor time, is framed on similar lines to that of last year; the only being that tho Maiden Hack Kaco will in futuro bo under handicap conditions, and known as "The Trial Hack," for horses that have not won a race excocding .£3O in T^ 1C » and that the Nursery Handicap, on the first dav, will bp open to two and three-year-olds, instead of two-year-olds only. Mr. J. Bull, owner of Irish Rifle, was considering nominating tho chestnut in tho hack hurdle events at Woodvillc, but as tho tracks-aro very hard at this timo of the year he decided to wait for somn littlo timo yet. If Irish Riflo can bo got to jump as well as The-Native, no will quickly ruu himself out of hack company, as ho has much moro paco. on the Hat "than tho black gelding. As Danubo is not in the A..J.C. St. Leger there is no waspn. for Mr.-G. D. Greenwood to send any .of his horses to Australia until the spring. However, it is confidently expected that K. J. Mason will tako; quite a big team over then. .. The Woodthorpo gathering last Saturdav week was tho last Hawke's Bay fixture at which the bookmakers could bet, and after tho races were over many of the "exiles" very generously presented their boards to the club. One of tho boards boro tho legend: "Of no further use. Not wanted on the journey." Last month tho Wangnnui owner of Shannon Lass sold tho black marc, and sho raced at tho Stratford and Foxton meetings in the nomination of Mr. J. Coleman. She lias again changed hands, 'and on Saturday last was shipped to .tho Vest Coast. At tho Takapuna meeting 011 Saturday Glad Tidings was fairly rushed for tho Sfarino Handicap. His chanco certainly appeared to )>9 a good one, as on the tracks ho had shown that ho' could gallop fast, and in his only outing under silk at Ellcrslie nt Christmas timo he ran a great raco behind Orton. Whittaker, who is c'arrying all beforo him nt tho present' time, had tho mount, and duly landed tho raco. The winner is n ■chestnut golding by Gladstone from St. Mary, nnd is. owned by Mr. C. Davison and trained by C. Coleman. He nromiscs to bo a good advertisement for liis sire. Mr. J. S.. Freeman, secretary of tho Dnnnovirko Club, inserts au advertisement in this issue reminding owners that nominations for tho Dannevirko Cup 'meeting closo on Saturday next. Genius, winner of tho Post Handicap at tho C.J.C. meeting on Saturday, lias now won each timo in. his last thrco starts. Antagonist, winner of tho Middle Pnrk Plate, is a bay colt hy'Soult from Jliss Annie, and--was purchased by Sir Geo. Clifford when in Auckland attending tho yearling sales twelve mouths ago. Despite liis ' crushing , impost of lOst. 131b. and. regardless of the .fact .that he was . conceding somo of his opponents river 4st„ the public again rushed Red Lupin in the Pony Handicap • at Taka- . pu'nn on Saturday, but this timo lie was unable to dffeat tho light-weights Stella (Ist.) and Blue Vale.
