Last year in the Wellington district 141 debtors were adjudicated . bankrupt on their own petition, and 32 on the petition of creditors.- The assets of the bankrupt estates amounted to £161,303, of which £83,645 was secured to creditors. Iho liabilities totalled £87,031. The amount of assets realised by tho assignee was £34,3G. r >, and the amount of debts proved ■£71,770. The sum paid iu dividends (includins preferential and secured claims) was £H,409. Ather payments were: Preferential -claims, .63651; secured claims, ,£2288; Government Commission, ,£1087; costs of returns, .solicitors'--fees, .£2204; expenses incurred in carrying on estates for tho'benefit-of creditors, £5161; balanco in bank on January 18, 1910, £7011; balance on December 31, 1910, .£10,707. Divided into tho separate towns of the Wellington district, tho bankruptcies occurred as follow:—Wanganui, 34; Palmer- , ston North, 2, r >; Dannevirke, 3; Pahiatua, 4; Nnpier, 17; Masterton, 24; Blenheim, 0; Nel=on, 8; Westpbrt, 8; Reefton, 1; Greymouth, 0; Hokitika, 3; Wellington City, 31. .
