CANADIAN U.S. AGREEMENT. PERMANENT TARIFF BOARD. (By Telegraph—Press Association Copyright) . ' . New York, January 31.' The United States Senate lias re&rred the Canadian Reciprocity Agreement to the Committee of Foreign Affairs. The House of Representatives has passed a- Bill providing for tho creation of a permanent Tariff Board in lieu of tho present board, which is merely a temporary expedient. The permanent board, advocated by President Taft, will placo the country's tariffs on a scientific basis. FRUITGROWEHS , PROTEST. Ottawa, January 31. The Ontario fruitgrowers are organising a monster deputation to Sir Wilfrid Laurier, protesting.that reciprocity with the States would ruin, the industry. IMPERIAL DEVELOPMENT. ■

The "Daily Chronicle," commenting on the "Daily Mail's" conclusions, expresses the- hope that if Imperial preference is dropped politicians of both partus will be able to co-pperato in schemes of Imperial development on. saner and more practicable lines.
