TERRITORIAL FORCE.

DISTRICT ORDERS. Included in the announcements made in the District Orders by LieutenantColonel E. W. Chaytor, Commanding Wellington District, aro the following:— Instruction has been received from tho Director of Stores that the prico oi waterproof sheets has been raised from us. to 7s. (i<l. Officers of tho Militia who aro transferred to the Territorial Force, AetiTu List, or Reserve of Officers, are not required to undergo examination lor the rank they held in' the ililitia unless transferred to a different branch of the service, when they will bo required to puss the proscribed examination in the extra necessary subjects for tho rank and branch of the service into which they aro promoted or transferred. Officers who are appointed to the Militia, Activo List, or Reserve of Officers,. must pass the prescribed examination not later than the first examination held in their district after having attained ono year's service, unless they bring satisfactory proof that they have served in a similar arm and rank in tho regular forces within seven years, or have held a commission for a similar rank and arm in any of his Majesty's Imperial or Colonial volunteer forces within two years of their appointment. Commissions of those who do not pass the prescribed examination will ba cancelled. On all occasions when Territorials are travelling by train, the senior officer or non-commission officer present will be in charge, and will bo held responsible that strict discipline is maintained. Any Territorial in uniform proved guilty of misbehaviour will bo severely dealt with. CANTERBURY DISTRICT. SWEEPING REORGANISATION. ■By Tclcirraph-Prcs? Assoeiation.l Christchurch January 31. Tho-reorganisation.of the defence forces of Canterbury, including Nelson and tho West Coast, provides for the following :— ' Cavalry. First regiment (Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry), squadrons at EUesmere, Sheffield, Rangiora, ond Culverden, with an «tra detached squadron at Kaikoura. Second Regiment—Headquarters at Timaru; squadrons at Ashburton, Geraldine, Timaru, and Waimate. Third R.cgimont (Nelson).— Headquarters at Nelson or Blenheim; squadrons at Blenheim, Tapawera, Motueka, and la-, kaka. . . •

Infantry. First Battalion.—Christchurch. Second Battalion (South Canterbury).-. Headquarters at Timaru. Third Battalion (Nelson Half Battalion).—To 'be recruited , in Marlborough and tho northern half of the Nelson laud districts, and half"in the southern half of tho Nelson and Westland laud districts. \ . ■ . ■ . Artillery. Oeo battery at, Christchurch and one at Nelson; ammunition column at Christchurch. Garrison Artillery. Two companies'to be amalgamated into one at Lytteltoii. Engineers. The.'company will be as at present,in Christchurch;' The field troop of engineers will bn stationed at either. Christchurch or Nelson. Signalling Companies. The present cycle company will, it is hoped, become tho signalling or communicating company under the new scheme. Infantry field ambulance will be as'at present in Christchurch with greatly increased strength. Tho cavalry field ambulance will probably havo its headquarters at Ashburton. and, if not there, probably at Nelson or Blenheim. The Officers' Training Corps will: cease to exist as a separate organisation, and the members will take their place cither in tho senior cadets or tho Territorial forces as the case may be. Boy Scouts..' The Commandant conferred with Lieut.Col. Cosgrove, Chief Dominion Scout, and explained that there would.lie no clashing of tho boy scouts and senior cadets, and, with the ranks of the senior cadets, ho. would bo glad to take any : properlyformed boy scout units. It was to bo distinctly understood, however, that; for purposes of drill, they were senior cadets, and had to do the amount of senior cadet drill.laid down by the regulations. After that they could ho boy scouts as much as they pleased. !
