KING EDWARD.

*; SCOTLAND'S MEMORIAL. By TdoEraph-rrcss Association-Copyrisht ' (Rec. January 31, 11.10 p.m.) London, January 31. Tho general committee of the Scottish national memorir.l to Kjng Edward, by 26 to 11, has recommended tho Ilolyrood scheme. Tho, minority favoured tho establishment of consumption sanatoria. Speaking at Edinburgh in October last, Lord Guthrie (a son of Dr. Guthrie) made reference to tho Lord Provost's proposal of a national memorial to the late King Edward at Holyrood Palace. The Lord Provost took.tho occasion to correct some misunderstanding of his scheme. It was not, ho said, proposed to ask the ratepayers to contribute, towards putting Holyrood Palace into the condition in which it ought to 'be. Tho nalaco might bo in that condition at the present time, but he hail no doubt. that "if the time came when it might be necessary, the Government would put Holyrood Palace in such a condition that Royalty could come.,from time to tiifto to their own capital ;n Scotland. It was premature to say that this was to be the scheme the wholo of Scotland was going to adopt. It would be proposed together with other schemes, and it would.be for subscribers throughout Scotland to say what was the best scheme.
