UNHAPPY HOSPITAL.
TROUBLES OF THE BOARD. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Darrjavjlle, January 28. At a meeting of the Marsden-Knipara Hospital Board yesterday a number of matters tho subject of keen local controversy affecting the board's hospital at To Kopurti were disposed of. Tho first was in regard to tho manner in which'tho. chairman of tlio local Hos-. pital Committee (Mr. F. J. DargaviUe) had temporarily staffed the institution during tne interregnum between the departing of tho old staff and tho appointment of a new'one. The committee had refused to endorse the chairman's action. Mr. Dargaville defended his action, which was upheld bv the board by 7 votes to 4. Several monitors of the local committee, thereupon tendered their resignations, which the board, however, refused to ac'i'lie resignation of tho matron (Miss If. Turnbull) was received. She stated that she'was unable to work with the present medical superintendent (Dr. 11. Young). "Numerous complimentary references to Miss Turnbull wore made, : and tho board refused to accept her resignation, but decided to transfer her to the Whangarei Hospital and transfer Miss Dixon, of Whangarei, to Te Ivopuru. As the appointment of Dr. Horton Joint, medical superintendent, expires next month, it was l-csolvcd to call for applications for a medical anaesthetist. The aesistaiifcsccretary (Mr. 1. Rood) was given tt month's notice of termination of his appointment, but* tho board refused to call for applications to fill the vacancy, pending the question of whether tho separate local committee for To Kopuru shall continue or whether the board shall administer' the hospital from Whangarei. .
