Tho "total entries received by tho Central A. and P. Association, Waipukurau, at the time of closing late entries, was 502, made up as follows :--Horses and competitions, 301; cattle, 21; sheep, CO; dogs, 8; homo industries', 100. iTlio hunters anil' steeplechase events, have been filled, there, being no. fewer than 32 entries'--in the former-competition. Great enthusiasm, is. -being, displayed, and over •10-new members have ' been proposed at the last two committee meetings. Everything augurs well-for a'very successful initial show, all that is now required being a line day..
Thursday's ' rain was very' welcome around Blenheim, where the land was in ■a very dry state. A sheepfarmer, writing to this paper, states. that owing to tho spell the j sheep were not looking at' thtir best;'"'"' "
. Pi:?pr.rations for tho eighteenth annual A. and'P. Show at Golden Bay are now well forward. The entries show a substantial increase, in the aggregate over those of last year (says the Nelson "Colonist"). . There is ' a falling-off in tho sheep classes, but several other items show a substantial increase, notably in cnttlc and pigs, and. in vegetable and fruit exhibits. In the tent ..classes the increase in entries is/the more remarkable .as this year there is not a single entry from Collin,gwood, wlicreas • last year", there were some sixty entries from that district. Below aro a list of 'this year's entries, with those of last year in parentheses after each:—Horses, 147 (114); cattle, 77 (SG); sheep,- 7G (87); piss, 26 (17): poultry, 22 (22); docs, 11 (12); bread and pastry, 112 (127)'; domestic produce, G4 (59); vegetables and fruit, 247 (20G); flowers, 49 (58); farm produce, 12 (10); clionping competitions, 12 (10); suwing, G (4). Grand total for this year, BGI, against Sl3 for last year. In a report of. a meeting of the Hastings branch of the Farmers' Union, the "Tribune" says:—"Tho chairman brought up-.thO' matter of noo'ing orders for farmers'-: requisites. This matter had been discussed at a former meeting, when it was decided to let it stand over until the .quarterly meeting. r -Mr. .Masters stated that several other branches of the union had tried the system, which had met ttitli success. Mr. Cartrisrht.
