ROWING.
WELLINGTON CLUB EVENTS. Tho Wellington Rowing Club's week-end races lyero begun on Saturday afternoon, when tho Nidd Fours wero rowed off, and sorao good racing resulted. In tho first heat, S. Standen (str.), B. Shaw (li), A. M Gill (2), I'. Lacey (bow), beat I\ rtfS '4 tr> 1A - ,? arr >' (3) ' P - Donovan } '• H - AY a( lmau (bow), after a good race, by a little over a length. Jix the second heat, H. M lunley (str.), J. Hoaro (3), A. Quaylo (2), S.. llowo (bow), boat C. 1 urness (str.), W. Hinchcliffe (3). C. bymonds (2), W. Hoaro (bow), after a splendid struggle, by a length. Tho third ??<T . was rowed o(f between Mlvinley screw and'A. W. Jackson (str.), E. Cairns (2), D. Pollock (2), ,T. Dichor (bow), Jackson beating M'Kinlev by a little over a length. Tho best finish of tho day was that in tho final heat, when Standen and Jackson' lined tho starting i»st. Both started off well together, Standen gaining a slight advantage at the start. About 100 yards from the finish, Standen, who had then about n length s lead, was challenged by Jackson, and a great finish ensued, Jackson creeping up.inch by inch, but Standen managed to stavo off defeat, winning by about 3 feet.
