WAIRARAPA RABBIT PEST.
FARMERS' VIEWS. . Yesterday being.sale day (says Thursday's Mastertoh "Times"), and also the height of' tho season for poisoning rabbits in tho surrounding districts, it was'exceedingly interesting to stroll from one group of farmers to; another and to hoar tho very varied opinions as to the best methods of exterminating the rabbit pest". Such discussion, naturally, leads, one to believe that the pest at present- is undoubtedly-, serious. - ' First, one hears that feed is too plentiful, then tho weather is too dry, for when a spit is turned over it is "stale" in. twenty, minutes; again, it is stated, that it is nf.no use laying poison on the ground where tho feed is green. Against this we-have tho statement that great success ,has been obtained when the poison has; .been .laid on the green patches, every pellet havingrbcen taken, while it has been left-untouched on the burnt up places. : Orio settler stated that, settlers must make their own poison,' but this was quite- overshadowed by statements mado by many others to the effect that" the poison supplied byvt-hc Agricultural Department was most satisfactory, and had been for years: ; :,Vbrilylthero. are.'many and divers opinions .as'to the best time and methods'to bo employed in poisoning Brer Rabbit. .■-■■-
