COLLEGE GOVERNORS.
—___$— — ADDITIONS TO THE GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL. . The monthly mooting of the Board of Governors of Wellington Collego and tlio Girls' High School was held yesterday, thero heing present:—The chairman (Mr. A. de B. Brandon), and Messrs. R. Lco,'A.'Warb'iuton, andW. I''. Ward.
Tho statement of finances, which was adopted, disclosed a balanco to credit of i' 995 16s. Sd. The business transacted was mostly of routine nature.
Mr. Robert Lee, at tho, conclusion of tho proceedings referred to the matter of-the. extensions to the Girls' High School building, and expressed regret that tho preparations for going on with tho building work were not further advanced. Plans had been prepared showing a building scheme which complied with the conditions imposed by the Government in granting tho sum of £4000 for.the additions. Had anything further, ho asked, been heard from the Government?
The chairman pointed out that the Government vote was for £3500 only, and in conforming to the' limitations imposed by, tho money available, plans had been' prepared for a plain' structure—hideously plain," he added—which would bo regarded' as a monument to tho economy of tho board. The Education Department had been written to in December last, but no reply had as yet been received. He' assumed that the delay' was .probably due to the absence of tho Minister for Education, who had now returned..
It was resolved to further communicate with tho Department on the subject.
