TO BE ESTABLISHED AT AUCKLAND. (By Tclerraph—Press Association.) Chrlstohurch, January 27. Tho Senato to-day received a report from tho Music Committee rogarding tho establishment of a Coriscrvatoriuni of Music. The committeo reported- as follows:— . ; . (1) Tho Recess Music Committee, as directed by a resolution of tho Senate at its last meeting, communicated with the affiliated colleges, to ascertain what .encouragement they' or any of them would give to the establishment of ,a Consorvatbriura of Music. .The Auckland University College is.tho only collego that replied definitely, and submitted to tho committee a practicable scheme with, a gratifying ofjer of encouragement.

(2) The. scheme submitted by the Auckland University College for the establishment of a Conservatorium of Music merits a subsidy from the Government, and. that the Senate recommends its establishment at Auckland.'

. (3) "The committee' recommends:' "That the Music Committee bo a recess committeo, with power to confer with the Auckland University College as to further details of the scheme."

_ Mr. L. Cohen, who moved the adoption of the report, explained that tho Auckland University College had acquired the Choral Hall in that city, and proposed to turn it into a Conservatorium of Music. ; There was already an organ in the hall. It was proposed at first to appoint five prof essots, and. thero would bo complete courses arranged in practice and theory. It was hoped that in a year or two the conservatorium. would be self-supporting. The committee felt that the scheme was an adequate _ one, and' were, 'thoroughly justified in making tho ''recommendation to tho Senate. It was felt that the conservatorium, once established at Auckland, would never bo allowed to die, but would expand and flourish. Sir G. Maurice O'Rorke said there was no desire at Auckland to monopoliso the teaching of,music, and he hoped to see similar conservatoriums established in connection with the other University colleges. ■ After a [ short discussion the Senate approved of the report.
