In connection with tho farewell banquet which' it is proposed to tender the Prime' Minister and the Attorney-Gen-eral (the Hon. Dr. Findlay) before their ■departure to represent'New-Zealand at tho Imperial Conference, the. Hon.'-; Dr. Findlay, having been written to yesterday asking him whether he could:attend this function on 'the .evening of March. 2, has replied to the secretary, Mr.. James Dykes, that arrangements already,.made by .him necessitate his absence from Wellington on.that,evening, and that therefore he is very reluctantly compelled to decline the kind invitation.

Mr. Charles Blasland and Miss E. M. Blaxland, of Wollun, Now South Wales, are visitors to Wellington. They aro to travel over the West Coast tourist route next week.

Misses Shaw and Parkes and Mrs. Hathaway, of Philadelphia, U.S.A., are visitors to Wellington. After visiting several of tho tourist resorts, the firTstnamed lady leaves for London to attend the Coronation ceremony, and the two latter leave for San Francisco in tho Aornngi in April.
About fifty police constables, including the Inspector of Police and the SubInspector, attended tho funeral of the lato Constable Andrew Shine, member of tlie Mount Cook police force, which took place ;yesterday*.afternoon. The cortege made its way to St.' Joseph's Basilica, in Buckle Street, and then to Karori, tho pall-bearers being Constables Chalhs, Shaw, M'Rae, and Glynn. The mother of the deceased and two brothers, residents of Oauiaru, .were present as chief mourners. There was a largo attendance of licensed victuallers and business people.

Meat Export : Company, who has resigned'.to take' up a similar position with the Wellington Fanners' Meat Company at Master-, ton, was, on Wednesday, presented, by/ the employees of preserving depart-' ment with a case of pipes for himself" and a handsome sajchel for Mrs. Tresedei\ Mr. Simpson made'the. presentation, and after a suitable reply cheerswere given for Mr. Treseder and family. In -the evening, the staff of the conir pany, • with whom Mr. Treseder > has been associated for over fourteen years, met, and Mr. H. Cox presented Mr. Treseder with. a. silver tea and coffee service, a case of pipes, _ and ' tobacco pouch, and wished the recipient success in his new sphere. '.'.'.''.
The funeral of the late Constable Andrew Shine took place yesterday . afternoon at Karori Cemetery. : A funeral service was held at the Buckle Street Church, and the Rev. Father Kinkead officiated at the graveside.' Following the cortege to the cemetery . were .two drags, containing some. 50 police officers, including Inspector Ellison, . Sub-Inspector Norwood, and:. Station-Sergeant Darby, while there-' were also a large number of civilians... Numerous floral tributes were received. from friends throughout the Dominion,., and amongst them. were wreaths . from j. the staffs at Lambton and Mount Cook -. Police Stations. Prior to his arrival 7 in Wellington, Constable Shine was formally years stationed in the Auckland 1 - district. He was a capable officer, and - will be remembered in.connection with; a rather smart arrest some two month* ago. In his earlier years ConstableShine was a well-known athlete, and. had represented Otago Province in the three-quarter-lino in. Rugby football."

The funeral of the late Mr. H.-''Mw Lyon took place yesterday morning, and was attended by a large number o£ friends and business associates of deceased. The chief- mourners • were Messrs. Harold, Wm., B. S., and R. J. Lyon (sons of deceased), the Hon. 0/ H. Mills, P. C. Binns M'llwraith (Christchurch), ■.. A. ■' H„ Holmes, P. P. Webb, W. B. Rhodes, E. T.- Redwa'rd, C. Redward, and; J.Glasgow. • Among those present were;' Mr. Jr R. Blair (a former partner),: Mr. Wm. Ferguson (Mr.-Lyon's successor as secretary to the ...Harbour Board), Mr. A. E. Whyte (secretary of the Wellington Racing Club), arid : «*• present-atives of the Pacific and other Masonic Lodges, the Underwriters'- Association, insurance and financial companies, with which the late Mr.; Lyon: had been connected at one time or other. The interment took place at Karori, "the Rev. T. H. Sprott conducti ing the service at the graveside.-' "•
