Tho Worser Bay Life-saving and Swimming Club held its inaugural carnival on Monday last and the club's committee (especially Mr. C. The club's revenue is derived from membership ices and entrance money, and- if it is to nave a vigorous lifo the residents of tho bay will Tequiro to support it-by-donations and tronhies. The racing, with tho exception ot the Ladies' Bracelet (100 yds.), w-as very close and interesting. In tho Bracelet Freyberg was conceding Blick '24sec, Murrell 8soc; and Mullins 9sec. Blick was especially well treated and to have beaten him Frevberg would have had to break the world's, record, and Murrell 1 and Mullins the New Zealand record. Anniversary Day at Masterton. Over dO of our local, swimmers visited Masterton to take part, in tho carnival held thero last Monday. A large number of them went up on Saturday afternoon, and were well treated by their Masterton brothers. Tho visitors enjoyed themselves thoroughly, and returned with a just share of tho spoils of war. Healy won, the 220 yds. Wairarapa Championship comfortably from C. Stranger, his only opponent. Stranger swam well for 150 yards, ..but tired visibly after-' wards. Ho was. however, successful in the Ladies' Bracelet, 110 yds., and was second, after being considerably interfered with, in tho 100 yds. handicap. Healy swam well in the 410 yds. Handicap, and was third to R. Newman, with 105 sec, and A. M'Lcan, 50sec. City and Seaside. In the Flying Squadron race to be decided at tho Swifts carnival to-day, the centre has ordained that tho teams must wear their club water-polo caps, so that the public will he able to follow each team-s progress., Swimmers chosen for (ho teams do not tako kindly to this, as tho caps may be tied too tightly, and thus impedo natural breathing, it tied on too loosely then they may slip down and obscuro tho view. , , Tho Wellington Club asked permission to hold its carnival 011 tho evening of February 9. Delegates to tho tuno of seven to four were of the opinion that a meeting on such a date would detract from tho interest of tho championship meeting. Mr Wilton was of tho opinion that if anyouo was to suffer it would bo tho Wellington Club and "Trudgeon fully agrees with him. it Lvall Bay last Sunday afternoon a girl was knocked off her feet and carried out to sea a fair distance, but luckily R. Grimmett and It Russell,'members of the Surf Club, were handy, and got her ashore littlo tho worse for her experience. Inexperienced swimmers should nvoid the open part of tho bay when a southerly swell, is on. . , ~ , A. M'Carlie, of tho Boys Institute, won the 100 yards schoolboys' championship at Masterton on Monday, and should give a good account of himself when tho local school championships are decided. Ho is being looked after by Wilson, of tho Wellington Club. Some good times were registered at Masterton when tho length of tho course, 110 yards, and the fact that tho water was 'fresh, aro taken into consideration. Healy did 2imn. 50scc. for tho 220 yds„ and 6miu. lOscc. for the 140 yds. Stranger did 67 seconds for tho 100 yds., after being inlerfered with, and 75 3-ssec. for 110 yds. In tho final of the 100 yards handicap held by tho Swifts Club on Wednesday, Ficyberg put up a splendid performance, doing the distance in 63sec, and getting second place. A. Frcyberg was reported to havo influenza, and would not swim iu the- final of the Wellington Club's 200 yds. handicap on Tuesday. At a meeting of the Wellington Club on Wednesday evening it was decided that the branch, tho Lyall Bay Surf and Lifo Saving Club, bo a separate body. Tho Wellington Club has, tho .writer is

sure, the thanks of all those who bathe at Lyall Bay, for bringing tho young club into existence.

Nothing of note has occurred in connection with water polo during the past week. To-day at the Swifts carnival a match between tho A and B representative teams will bo played.

A. M'Lean, the Wellington Club's promising distance swimmer, is leaving Wellington next week in order to take up a position on a sheep run somewhere in tho Hawke's J3ay district.

Tho arclights have been installed at the To Aro Baths for somo 'timo past, but tho baths have not yet been opened at night time. Tho Wellington Club's carnival is set down for decision on March 25, but tho club intends, the writer is informed, to try and get it off somo night during February, that is, if tho centre is agreeable.
