Judge linger; in. delivering judgment i-in further, crises connected with the recent rjots in the Hoabit quarter of Berlin, declared, that citizens were justified in shooting policemen who were brutally assailing them; A miniature labour dispute in one of the industrial quarters of Berlin developed on September 26 last into a serious conflict!with the police. A firm of coal merchants in Moabit, one' of the northwestern districts of the city, whoso workmen had been on strike for some - time past, had been employing strike breakers in their business. Much feeling hod been aroused and during the last preceding days the "blacklegs" had received police protection, a half-dozen of .mounted police accompanying the carts of the firm on their rounds. On September 26, about 7 o'clock crowds collected in the. streets and proceeded to: demonstrate aaginst the police who were.guarding the.premises of the firm. The lamps in several streets were extinguished, and water and •other missiles were.thrown from.windows upon the police .below, whose, task was rendered still more difficult. by. the. presence of a number of women and children in the crowd. demonstrators, among whom thera was a large rowdy element, attacked the police with stones, the latter charged with their swords. The mob concluded-.its excesses by breaking ; the windows " of a church. Soma forty of the police'received 'in-, juries, which in a few cases were serious. • ''•■•. At 7 o'clock on September 27 there was a collision between the police and about 3000 rioters. The police, including-15 mounted men; charged the mob, slashing right and left with their sabres.
