Count Komurn, Minister for I'areigu Affairs, in a speech in the House of He-' pi'cseutatives, declared that the AngloJapaneso Alliance was constantly gainiiift in strength. By ensuring perfect accord and genuine goodwill between the two Powers, the Alliance continued to bo a powerful fnctor in Hid general peace of the Far East. The tariff negotiations were proceeding with the- various Powers, and the Government was aiming to re-establish the complete tariff autonomy of Japan and to eliminate unequal engagements. It was hoped that a satisfactory tariff treaty witfi Great Britain would shortly be concluded.
