THE TARANAKI OILFIELDS.

OPINION OF AN EXPERT. (By Tcleeraph.-Prcss Association.* New Plymouth, -January 24. Mr. J. I). Henry, the oil expert from Home, in an interview this morning with a Taranaki "Herald" representative, said: "It the gocd fortune of very few oil-producing centres to possess such, splendid 'geographical advantages. Shipment. of Taranaki oil will never cost the producers more than a fraction of tlie heavy expenses incurred by the movement of oil in many ot the.great foreign holds--in California, Trinidad, and Newfoundland numerous prosperous .oil porta are being brought into existence, but none possess greater advantages than the port of New Plymouth." He declares there is reason for optimism as .to the development of the field and its influence on the trade of the town'. The, results secured up to the present, are far from unsatisfactory,- and the" companies have done better -than concerns operating in such .places at Nigeria and Trinidad, at the start. He.adds that 'Sir. Boverton Redwood, the- .well-known authority on petroleum matters,. has a . very keen appreciation of. the possibilities of a large industry being established in this island..
