MR. HOLMAN ON NEW ZEALAND.
PURSUIT OF RUNAWAY HUSBANDS. Bj Teleeraiili—Press Association-Copyrlcht Sydney, January 24. Mr., Holman, State Attorney-General, is enthusiastio over his Now Zealand tour. He says he found the Dominion a much more important place than he expected. The Minister hopes, as a result of his interview with. Pr. Fiudlay, New Zealand Attorney-General, to establish reciprocity regarding defaulting husbands. ■ WHAT IS PROPOSED. Dunedin,'January 24. Dr. Findlay was ouestioned this evening ia reference,to the Melbourne cablo message, which conveys the intimation that Mr. Holman, Attorney-General of r^?®oß9fiift'7^ 7n ' M ' hoped as. the. result'of converse tions' with Dr. Fi'iidliiy, to J establisli reciprocity regarding defaulting husbands. He stated that lie. had discussed thematter with Mr. Holman when, lie was iif New Zealand, and he had readily expressed liisj willingness to endeavour to have the reciprocal legislation contemplated by the New Zealand Destitute Persins Act placed upon tlve New South Wales Statute Book. The provisions of our Act at present were wholly in favour of the Australian States. They provided that husbands deserting their wives in Australia and coming to New Zealand could bo proceeded against here upon a certificate of judgment obtained by the wifq in one or other of the Australian courts. This would onablo a deserted wife in New. South Wales to take proceedings ttero agjinst her husband who had destiled her and corno to Now Zealand, and to obtain an order against him there without trbuble or expense. The ordor would then bo sent 'over and filed in one of the courts here, and be made the basis of a judgment against the defaulting husband in New Zealand, unless he could show that it should not have been made in New South Wales. "We put.that on our Statute Book," said Dr. Findlay, "with a view to reciprocal provisions being placed in the Statute Books in all the Australian Slates, and T have already reason-to believe that these reciprocal provisions will- bo maue at the earliest convenient time. Jlr. Hol ; man readily approved of our law." '
