Thoi'chairinan of the council,, who was absent through illness (in discussing a letter from the Public W°rks'Department, stating , that the, .Gorge Bridge should be painted), wrote, expressing the opinion that it-was strange that tho Government should ask them to paint the bridge- when the . Government's- own railway bridges ■ were not painted. He supposed that tax would bo better than paint. Councillor , Rowling-; remarked that, if tho Government neglected its duty, that was noireas'on why the .council should do so. -Tho bridge would bo better for being tarred. Estimates are-to" be 'prepared regarding Menzio's Ford; Bridge. Tho chairman stated that plans had been received from the Public Works Department, and the next thing' was to arrange for a commission as . between the councils. Councillor Burrell thought that tliey should certainly have the commission to ■determine tho contribution from tho Pohangina County Council. Councilor Rowling said that, in view, of tlio fact that tho Oroua Council liad contributed £525 towards the cost of tho Pohangina Bridge, tho Pohangina ■ Council should bo asked ; for £750 towards tlio Menzie's Ford Bridge. Tho county treasurer presented the following report General rates levied 1009-10, £47SS Is. Id.; collected £4763 Bs. 5d.; outstanding, £24 12s. Bd.; rates levied 1910-11, £4330; colkcted, £3973 12s. 6d;; outstanding, £916 . 7s. 6d. Bank balances;. General account, 'dr. £572125. 7d.; interest account, dr.- £262 17s. : 4d.; Gorge Bridgo -account, £638 3s. lOd. The following alterations wero mado in the rato roll Charles Rickard to R. H. Millett, Section 33, Block 111, Kairanga; J. H. Taylor to David Speedy, rural section 475, Tahncrston North, and part section .59, sub-division P, Manchester Block; G.. Featherston to R: H. Godfrey, Section, 143, etc., Jlugby i Junction. . ■
