A SHUNTER'S DEATH. ■ BOOT CAUGHT IN THE POINTS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Dunctiin, January 12. An inquest was held at Mosgiel to-day on the body of Samuel Fibbes, aged 2(i, who was fatally injured yesterday. The evidence showed that while deceased was engaged Tn shunting, his boot must have got caught in the points, and ho was unablo to release it, with the result that eight*wagons went over him, cutting off one of his logs and an-arm. It was pointed out that if deceased had been wearing elastic-side boots he might have been able to release his foot. The coroner said that he would make a recommendation to the Department as to the advisability of providing clastic-side boots for shunters. A , verdict of accidental death was returned. DETERMINED SUICIDE. Auckland, January 12. A determined suicide was committed this evening in Albert Park, ■ a man named Alexander Neilson swallowing a quantity of lysol. Deceased was about. 50 years of age, and, as far as can be ascertained, had no' relatives in the Dominion. He'had been working for some time in a restaurant. •' HEART DISEASE. Dunsdln, January 12. At the inquest on the body of George Todd, who lost his life while examining the sunken Rise and Shine dredge, .the medical evidence, was that the. valves of Mr. Todd's heart were affected, and that he died of heart disease. A verdict- of death from natural causes .was returned. ' , VICTIM OF EXPLOSION. . Creymouth, January 12, John Dunn, .a victim of the gas ex-. plosion at the State mine railway extension works .on Monday, died this morning in the hospital. "
