Speaking at the' Manchester Unity .centenary banquet at Sydney on October -11 Lord Dudley referred' to certain reports which had been- persistently circulated' regarding his conduct an<| intentions. Th<i Governor-General rhat 'he had heard these reports with the most profound amazement. Some wandering critic had .reported that Australians wero lackin imagination, but evidently, 'said his Lordship, a few. possessed a m.ost remarkably vivid imagination, for. pever Old anyone set to work to concoct a story with less fact to build upon than' 'the people who invented those extraordinary yarns.
