It will be seen that the programme comprises thirteen championship and seven handicap events, and covers all branches of the sport—running,- jumping, hurdling, walking, etc. '• Entries have lir-cn exceptionally large, and as well as all the local cracks, the country districts will be strongly , represented. New Plymouth, with Stohr (of football fame), Wanganui with Williams and Martis, Woodville with Cartwright, and Mastcrton with Berry, Messenger, and others, aro sure to hold their own.. Besides these, Opie (Canterbury's crack sprinter) will be a competitor. All the other events show signs- of some very keen competition, and as the team - to represent the province at the New Zealand championships will be picked after the meeting, it will bo interesting to note what talent we lmvo to defend, the.shield at present held by. us. Arrangements have. been mudo for a hand and also for afternoon tea.

SWIMMING.
WATER POLO. The water ■ polo match between Thorndon and Swifts was played at Te Aro Baths yesterday evening, and was won by Thorndon by: three goals to tiro. Robert's stored first for Thorndon, swimming right np to the goal-mouth after boating Smith. Ilcaly put the next Thorndon goal through,' and he was really responsible for tho final goal, which'was scored by Drice. Ileoly drew Brice's vis-a-vis away, and then passed to the undefended man, who scored easily. Swifts' iirst goal foil to Wilton, who scored from a scramble. Wilton was also responsible for his sido's second score. Tho Australian rulo of throwing the ball in by tho half-back was adopted for the first time. The discarded system,' that of the referee .throwing in the ball, is the English style. Mr. Geo. Sadd was referee.
