| THE HUTT ROAD.. | The monthly meeting of tho Hutt County' Council was ■ held yesterday at the offices, Lambton Quay. Present: Councillors Lynch (chairman), Edwards, Galloway, Welch, Wabeham, and Whiteman. " Tha dog tax for 1911 was fixed at 2s. Gd. pen dog. Mr. Charles Wycth was appointed. registrar of dogs for tho Mangaroa riding. ' ' ' ' Tho Inspector of Works. (Mr. Cudby) reported on road-works done during December. He. stated that preparation was being made" Cor ■ crushing metal to re-, pair tho road between the Upper Hutt town district and the junction of tho Akatarawa with the main ■ east road, which would need a considerable amount of repairing during the autumn. The Jtoonshine-Whakatatu Road contract was also complete, ' the work having been carried out'in a very able and workiuaulike ■-.manner.. Tho roads throughout the county-were in very-fair order. -The report was adopted. ■. ' . A proposal to establish . a crushing, plant at a quarry at Paekakariki wasdiscussed,, but decision was postponed to allow of further trial of the engine and: crusher..

■ Tho Public 'Works Department wrote that the following grants wero 'available: —Mungaroa River Bridge, ,£300; Mungaroa to Upper Hutt, .£SO; Whiteman's Valley Road, .£SO; Harris Road, ,£75; Odlin's Road, ,£100; Phillips Road, .£2OO. Tho council decided to have plans of the works in. question .prepared as. soon, as possible, so as to secure the approval of tho Department,, and have the works put in liana. The Jlungaroa Bridge, the Mungaroa-TJpuer Hutt Road, and Harris Road are to bo done by day labour and the. other three works by contract. . Tho Horowhenua County Council wrote, intimating that the Hutt- County woulfl be required to pay half tho cost of the proposed now bridge across tho Ngatiawa Stream, less 1 the Government subsidy of. £250. It was decided that, the chairman. , and the inspector of works should meet the Horowhenua engineer on the . spot, as requested. The Wellington City Council wrote in the same terras as to other interested local bodies, asking whether the County Council had at any time asked the Government to make, a footpath on tho Hutt Road. The-clerk said lie could find no record of such a request by the council. , There was a conference .of. delegates of local bodies, which formulated certain requirements as to footpaths and other matters,' but the' clerk thought 110 representations to the Government followed those decisions. • In reference to a. further question by the City Council as to tho alleged inferior quality of the metal used by the Bail way. Department on tho Hutt Road between Ngnhanranga and tho city, members felt that they were not in a 'position to judge. \ Mr. H. Dormer wrote, complaining of alleged nuisance caused by the boilingdoivn and inanuro works at Belmont, The C ?,V ,;, a , ft , er hearin e the views of Councillor welch, decided to take no action. llio transfer of certain land at Pahautanui from W. N. Stace to D. Grigg-was approved. ' In accordance with the provisions of tho Rating Amendment Act, 1910, the council resolved that tho 10 per cent, penalty should be added to all rates not paid before March 16, 1911. .

A deed of dedication of a small piece of laud afc Phinmerton by Mr G \ Troup to the county for road purposes was sealed.

Accounts amounting to '£635 4s. 2d were passed;for payment.
