PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.
(By Telegraph.—Special CorrcsDondent.l • Palmerston, January 10. The Magistrate's Court resumed, its sittings this morning/after tho holidays, but there was only a very short list of civil cases. At a conference between representatives of the Kairanga ..and Pahiatua. County Councils, the maintenance of the Gorge Road was left in the hands of the former council. A meeting of local bodies interested in this road is to be convened, with tho object of inducing the Government to take over its maintenance, as it is looked upon as a colonial work. A young man named William ' Hallet, in the employ of Messrs. Craven and Brewer, of Ashhurst, was admitted to the Palmerston Hospital last evening suffering with a broken leg. The injury was caused through his horse falling on liita. Mr. Martin Hart, for over twenty years a resident of Ashhurst, died yesterday,, aged G5 years. Deceased, who was greatly esteemed, leaves a' wife and large family to mourn their loss. . '
